Spring 2025 Enetron Park acquired a land reservation next to Kittilä Isoniemi power station. Since then, the project has been mostly dormant while best possible project fit for the site has been studies. The fundaments of the project are now chosen and the active permit and development process has begun.

Kittilä will see a development of unique BESS system, utilizing sodium-ion battery chemisty (i.e. salt batteries). This rising future technology does not match the energy density of current lithium-ion batteries, but the construction costs and environmental factors of sodium ion surpass that of traditional BESS.

Further, the site will be developed for still rare 12 hour battery dimension – a development which Enetron Park sees as the future standard.

The project is expected to reach ready to build stage 2027 and the construction is planned to commence 2028.
